OPI Guidance

The Innovative Educational Tax Credit program came about from the 2021 Legislative Session. It allows Montanans to receive dollar-for-dollar credits on their state income taxes for donations made to public school districts. It opens every year in January, and it is first-come, first-serve across the state. Please contact District Clerk Susanne Valach for more information (406-683-2361 ext 113).

It was open in 2025 on January 15 and the full $6 million was gone in 1 hour and 13 minutes. There was $84,750 of invalidated credits opened up on September 23 and those were gone in 1 minute, 14 seconds! Thanks to our nine donors in 2025, BCHS received $32,200!!!

In 2026, the 7.2 million dollars was gone in 7 minutes, 17 seconds! We were fortunate to get $24,000 from six donors!! We also had three more donations but we weren't able to get them entered into the portal in time. There have been $236,000 of invalidated credits that will open back up on October 1, 2026 at 9:00 am
