Good evening this is Gary Haverfield, Superintendent at Beaverhead County High School with a couple of important announcements.
As you are aware, on April 22th Governor Bullock extended our current school closure through May 6th. He also announced that starting May 7th returning to school would be left up to the local school Boards.
Tonight at 5:00 pm the Beaverhead County Board of Trustees met in a Special Session to discuss the options for schooling for the remainder of the year.
Also today, the Public Health Department met and they initiated a Strong Recommendation to all Beaverhead County Schools to maintain the school closure for the remainder of the school year and continue with remote and online instruction.
As a result, the Beaverhead County High School Board of Trustees discussed a multitude of factors, including social distancing, health and safety of our staff and students, and others factors.
The Board of Trustees made a motion in support of the Public Health’s Strong Recommendation to continue with the school closure for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously!!
Therefore, this year’s school calendar will continue to be followed. Beaverhead County High will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. All current and future instruction before and after May 7 will continue with the current online alternate delivery methods being used and followed by the Action Plan sent and approved by the Governor.
Although, this was a difficult decision for our Board. It was very clear and evident to the Board that between social distancing issues, sanitizing concerns, and other factors that could not be met by the District, the Boards Number One Concern and the reasoning for their decision is based on safety and health of our staff and students!!
As we proceed with the remainder of the school year our staff will continue to work hard to provide the best educational format we can during this unprecedented time. We will continue to assess and evaluate our plan, and will continue to communicate with parents and students as we proceed with our educational plan.
